Program Overview

The program includes six structured modules spread over twelve weeks:

  • Module 1: Developing Your Leadership Style

  • Module 2: Managing the Work

  • Module 3: Managing Employees

  • Module 4: Managing Up

  • Module 5: Getting Support

  • Module 6: Problem-Solving and Action Planning

Each module includes:

  • Prework assignment to help you make the most of the session

  • 60-minute call with a management trainer that includes structured content as well as an opportunity to discuss current challenges

  • Application assignment to help you apply your learning right away

Target Audience

This program is designed specifically for new supervisors with at least one direct report.  It's ideal for newly hired/promoted managers of knowledge workers in fields such as software development, professional services, and other knowledge-work industries.  It can also be helpful for managers undergoing a "fresh start" due to a major change in their environment or a significant shift in their team's mission or reporting structure. 

This program is not suitable for employees who aspire to be managers but do not currently supervise anyone, as most of the assignments involve immediate application to solve current challenges and opportunities as a manager.


Participants in this program typically spend 1 to 3 hours per week on program activities, including assignments, application, calls, and personal reflection.  All of the work is directly applied to your current team, though, and is designed to help you streamline, so the net result may be fewer hours.
